This graphic novel prequel to the hit CW television show written by series Executive Producer, Peter Johnson, gives readers an incredible never-before-seen look into the mythos of the series. Can a newly widowed father balance fighting evil with raising his children? Discover what becomes of his two young sons, Dean and Sam, and how these formative events from their childhood will forever alter their destiny.

My Review:

I'm gonna start off by saying this is my first graphic novel. I tried one a couple months ago and didn't enjoy it so I thought graphic novels weren't for me. However, as soon as I found out from my friend, Steph, that Supernatural graphic novel were a thing, I knew I had to have it.

After starting it and seeing how the graphic novel went more in-depth to John Winchester's backstory, I knew I was going to fall in love. And honestly, I did.

There are a few things that were a little off though. In the show we learn John is a ex-marine, so he is already tough from being in the military. However, I felt John had more of an innocent approach to everything that happened to him throughout the graphic novel.

This novel times place right after Mary dies, (don't worry, this isn't a spoiler if you haven't yet watched Supernatural.) so we are immediately thrown into the world of John wanting to figure out what happened to his wife and who killed her.

I relate to what a couple other people said of John's personality being a little off. But, I also understand they wanted to portray how the supernatural world was something John didn't know anything about, however, I felt they just made him seem a little too lighthearted and innocent.

I also noticed someone else point this out, but there was a part when Dean was going to run away and leave Sam which is a WAY off Dean's character. Even as a child.

Don't take what I'm saying wrong though, I really enjoyed this graphic novel, I'm just saying how there's parts that aren't accurate to what we've learned from the show.

The only other thing that I was confused with was the short story in the back, but that has nothing to do with the overall graphic novel.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel and I'm so glad I gave it a chance. I think the artwork was beautiful and matched the show very accurately without being overpowering either.

I give this book four stars out of five.

I am saddened that the other graphic novels don't seem to be available anymore, but I'm glad to have gotten my hands on this one.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and recommend it.

As for content, there are some gory scenes/images, and possibly a couple crude references and cuss words if I remember correctly.

I was not given a copy of this book. I purchased it with my own money.

My Life with the Walter Boys by Ali Novak

I love supporting indie authors and Wattpad writers, along with the traditional authors, so when I stumbled upon this audiobook I couldn't help myself.

I really liked this book. I went into it not fully knowing what to expect besides a lot of boys in one household. The story takes place on a farm, that our main character moves to after losing her parents and sister in a car accident. Sad right? She doesn't adjust right away. She wonders which of the Walters can be trusted. While some many it obvious they dislike her, others are harder to pinpoint. Overtime, she becomes close to Alex. But, Cole isn't letting it slide too easily.

The overall book was cute and hilarious at times. I recommend it for older teens versus younger. Also a slight warning that the ending will have you wanting a sequel!

Content:

(I unfortunately don't have a complete list of content, however I will list as much as I recall.)
This book contains no actual/physical sex but doesn't contain a couple mentions regarding it. Some language such as shit-head, asshole, damn, and so on. I cannot recall any F-bombs but there might have possibly been one or two. There are some scenes with drinking and one when the main character gets drunk. Also a game of spin-the-bottle.

This book was NOT given to me by the author, but was listened to on Audible.

When We Began by Judy Corry (Book Review)

When We Began by Judy Corry
A short and sweet review for one of my favorite authors!

About the Book:
What's the first rule when staying at your best friend's house for the week? Don't fall for her older brother.
I never paid much attention to my best friend's older brother until he refused to kiss me.
After that humiliating day, I promised myself that Liam Turner would regret ever making me feel less than worthy.
But then I got stuck spending the week at his house.
So to make the best of the situation, I made plans to find my next summer boyfriend and flaunt it in Liam's face.
Revenge was working great until Liam made a U-turn and targeted his charm and hotness on me.
A practice date? Sure. I'd show him what he'd been missing.
Falling for the enemy was not on the agenda.
I LOVED this book. I feel like the word love is a understatement. Judy Corry has never failed me with her amazing books. Her writing is so sweet and cleansing. Her books definitely are refreshing and so clean. I highly recommend any of her books.
I was gifted a copy of this novella through a promotion the author was doing through their newsletter. All opinions are my own.

Kismet & Karma by Robin Daniels (Review)

Kismet & Karma by Robin Daniels

I’m obsessed with this book and the first one. In Fate and Fortune we got to see Bryce and Paige’s relationship blossom. In Kismet and Karma we get to see HOW it came to blossom. And wow, talk about amazing friends.

There is so many things to love about this book. Robin has such a way with her writing and characters. Each character is so different and well developed. Unlike the first book that was written from Paige and Bryce’s point-of-view, this one is told from each of their friends point-of-views. It’s pretty epic that way too.

I love how the book picks up in the beginning but from a complete different perspective, but still following the same storyline but in a behind the scenes kinda way. I definitely did not get bored and I will definitely be rereading this in the future.

There was also one paragraph in this book about God that I really loved. About how God might use fate as a spiritual tool to help with things he couldn’t get too. Isn’t that amazing?

Overall, this book has been a new favorite. I loved everything and there is nothing I’d change or complain about. I highly recommend this to anyone in high school or any older. Amazing book.
